Atrium on Main was built for use as wholesale exhibition space. After expanding to its current 250,000 square feet, the building operated as Atrium Furniture Mall, a retail home furnishings complex, before returning to its current function as a wholesale exhibition building.

The Atrium is owned and operated by Ikerd Enterprises of Hickory, North Carolina, which also owns and operates Catawba Furniture Mall and the ParkInn Gateway Conference Center and hotel, both in Hickory.
